Bring Your Show Idea to Life - Creative Career Workshop

Who: You are an artist who is in the process of creating your own work. You have written things down, you may have a bible and a script, you may have even started pitching, but you want to make sure you know how to walk the fine line between being realistic, and being taken advantage of.  You are looking to learn more about the business side of show business and be the boss of your own career.

When: Saturday, September 23rd and Sunday, September 24th, 2017.

Where: Laughing Vikings Studio, 696 B Queen St. E., Toronto, ON

This two day, limited enrollment course will focus on the development of your television or digital series ideas. At the end of two days you will have begun to create a strategy to bring your project to fruition.

Day One

  • Help you ask the right questions to make sure this quest is in alignment with your long term career goals.
  • Determine how your project fits into the current market and how to find the networks you should be targeting.
  • Complete a frank evaluation of your current creative team and determine how they will or will not help this project come to life.
  • Assess who you need working with you, what markets you need to attend, and what territories your show will have the best chance of selling in.
  • Share your current sales tools (if any) and work to improve them.
  • Discuss your current brand and what you need to do with it to attach yourself to your own project.

Day Two

Assess your specific sales-strategy for your project including:

  • Seek out sales targets and work together to find contact information and develop a contact strategy.
  • Commit to a Timeline.
  • SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats)
  • Pitch your project to the class and commit to a series of goals and next steps.

Your teacher, Mandy May Cheetham, and has been offering business development strategy to dancers, athletes, artists, directors, companies and executives for over 15 years including communications strategies for international studios, film finance companies and film and t.v. executives.

Mandy has sold two television shows that she's created, written and starred in in the past year: MUTHA, a sketch series on Rachel Dratch's Late Night Snack on truTV (a Turner network) in the US and Mandy Mayhem's Rapping with Actors, a comedic talk show on Bell Fibe tv1 in Canada.

She's pitched to and met with major networks, independent producers, agents and production companies all over the US and Canada including HBO, TBS, truTV, Funny or Die, BELL Media, CBS, Warner Bros., Blue Ribbon, Blumhouse, Mosaic, APA, AAA, and NBC.

She wants you to enter this adventure with your eyes wide open and armed with all the information she can give to minimize the heartbreak and help you actually enjoy your creative journey!

BONUS: Each class attendee will receive a free one hour studio rental at Laughing Vikings for self tapes, pod casting, green screen use, etc.!
